Short Story: Laziness leads to poverty.

The wind howled through the trees as the vicious dog neared Abigail, who was crouching in the shadows of the narrow alleyway.

When he was a few metres away from Abigail, the dog bellowed with his gruff and threatening voice,“You will be punished for your laziness and your ignorance of your parents’ hard work. Get prepared to die.”

Abigail let out a terrified scream and started to beseech the dog.

“Please don’t kill me, oh… please! I promise I will work hard. I will even give you anything, just please don’t kill me,” she implored.

“If you wish” the dog replied.

Abigail offered a stone necklace, a few pennies she had in her coat pocket or three packs of matches she was supposed to sell today.

The dog scrutinised all the objects carefully.

At last he growled,“ I will take up your offer, but I do not want anything you said. I want the red ribbon in your hair.”

Abigail tossed the ribbon to the dog and then wondered what value the ribbon even had.

Keeping her promise to the dog, Abigail started to work harder and be more diligent. At her father’s farm, she did all her chores including extras everyday.

Mr Miller, Abigail’s father, claimed,“ Abigail, you certainly seem more active and hard-working. It’s like magic!”

Abigail’s response was just a shrug.

Abigail soon became the richest person in the city, which caused her to become lazy again, because she earned all the luxuries she needed. After a few months, the dog paid her a visit again.

He snarled,“ See hard-work leads to prosperity, but leaving your work because you are rich, will lead to the same state as you were before. You failed to keep your promise Abigail, prepare to die.”

Instead of offering the vicious dog anything to bribe him so he doesn’t kill her, Abigail called her robot army and asked them to fight the dog.

In no time, the dog tore the swarm of robots apart. In fury, instead of killing Abigail, he took away her riches. Her life became the same as before and she was penurious again.

The End!
